Debriefing AQUI

El formato será el siguiente:

Escuadrón: 115 ó 253

Tipo de misión: SEAD, StRIKE, etc...

Callsign: Falcon1, cowboy, gator,etc...

Tipo y numero de aviones utilizados para el vuelo: 2 F-16C block 52

Objetivo: xxxth AAA battalion

TGT destruido: Sí, no.

3.1 UNICOM Radios.

This round of PvP will have a unique airbase per side. As a consequence, we expect a lot of traffic from different squadrons on the same airbase.

Coordinating that traffic will be mandatory. BMS ATC is not to be used for sequencing traffic at or around airbase. ATC should be used for information such as requesting QNH, Chocks, Winds and active runway information.

Rather we are relying on each flight lead to use the tower frequency as a common frequency for self managing traffic on the ground and around airbases. The principles of UNICOM frequency (in this case the published UHF Tower frequency) are usually suitable at uncontrolled airports. The flight lead of each flight will be responsible to give correct advisory on a common frequency stating his intentions for the benefit of other flights within the same airspace. The announcements do not grant an answer from the other flights listening on the frequency. They are advisory calls.

These communication protocols are valid on the ground and in the air, within 15 Nm from the airbase.

For the protocol to work, it is important to follow basic guidelines:

 All flights must monitor the IVC UHF tower frequency within 15Nm of the airbase.

 Intra-flight chatter on UHF must be kept to a minimum. (Only lead request flight information to BMS ATC (except the obvious such as chocks,…)

 All flights must check on the UHF tower in sequence (15 to 10 minutes before Take off time is a good timing, but that is left at the flight lead discretion)

 All flights must report leaving/switching a frequency.

3.2 Departure.

Mandatory calls for managing traffic at departures are the following:

 Initial Flight check in (Mustang flight check,…#2, #3, #4)

 Report Taxi (Airbase Tower, Mustang flight of 4 F-16, ready to taxi)

 Report Lining up (Mustang flight lineup,…#2, #3, #4)

 Report Leaving the UNICOM airspace at 15Nm from airbase (Mustang flight leaving tower to 13)

Obviously, these calls must be made on the UNICOM Tower UHF frequency.

3.3 VFR ARRIVAL. (See Overhead recovery section)

Mandatory calls for managing traffic at arrivals are the following (again on the UHF Unicom Tower frequency) :

 Prior to enter the 15NM airbase airspace, the flight must be checked in on UHF Unicom tower (Mustang Flight check, #2, #3, #4)

 AT 15Nm flight lead must state their intentions (Airbase tower, Mustang flight of 4 F-16 at South Entry point for overhead)

 AT 5Nm from the active runway threshold, Flight lead needs to report initials (Airbase tower, Mustang flight, Initials RWY36)

 Please note, the break is silent, no need to call it.

 The perch (base) needs to be called in sequence. Each flight member will call base on the UNICOM Tower frequency: Mustang One, Base, 3 green, RWY 36 Mustang Two, Base, 3 green, RWY 36 Mustang Three, Base, 3 green, RWY 36 Mustang Four, Base, 3 green, RWY 36

 Runway vacated needs to be called as well Mustang One, Runway vacated Echo Right Mustang two, Runway vacated Echo Right Mustang Three, Runway vacated Echo Right Mustang Four, Runway vacated Echo Right

 Prior to shut down, it is advised that flight leads announce leaving the frequency: Mustang One, Leaving Tower frequency, exiting.

3.4 IFR ARRIVAL.

Mandatory calls for managing traffic at arrivals are the following (again on the UHF Unicom Tower frequency) :

 Prior to enter the airbase airspace, the flight must be checked in on UHF Unicom tower (Mustang Flight check, #2, #3, #4)

 AT IAF flight lead must report IAF and state their intentions Flight lead must sequence their flight in proper formation for IFR recovery: usually short trail, radar tied) (Airbase tower, Mustang flight of 4 F-16 in trail at WOLF (IAF) for ILS 36)

 Each STAR waypoint will be reported in sequence. Stating altitude is not required as it is published on the chart. Mustang one, passing TOLCI Mustang two, passing TOLCI, …

 Intercepting the glide will be announced in sequence: Mustang one, On glide on LOC, gear down ILS 36 Mustang two, On glide on LOC, gear down ILS 36 …

 Minimums (Final approach) will be announced in sequence:

Mustang one, SHORT FINAL 36

Mustang two, SHORT FINAL 36 …

 Runway vacated needs to be called as well Mustang One, Runway vacated Echo Right Mustang two, Runway vacated Echo Right

 Prior to shut down, it is advised that flight leads announce leaving the frequency: Mustang One, Leaving Tower frequency, exiting.

3.5 UHF COMMON (Tactical)

Outside airbase airspace, all flights should monitor and use UHF #13. That is the common tactical frequency for inter flight coordination within the AOR. Incidentally that is also the frequency where you will hear AI AWACS calls and benefit from the UI frequency for human AWACS.

The only exceptions to the above are:

AA refuelling where assigned frequency is UHF#12 Nordo aircraft (see below)

3.6 VHF IntraFlight

VHF is reserved for intra-flight communications. Flight lead may elect to use a preset (#3, #6, … or a dedicated frequency (115.80, 116.10,...) It is advised to brief a backup VHF frequency with members of your flight and as much as possible try to have single flights on the same VHF frequency. Flight lead coordination required.

3.7 Lost comms (Nordo).

If two ways communication is lost and cannot be regained each flight member should revert to Uniform Guard. A nordo aircraft has to be escorted to land and always lands first, using the good aircraft to announce intentions on the relevant frequency as described above
