Hi all,

I'm VERY happy to get the honor of announcing this project which I know many have been waiting for smile.gif

737CL1.jpg

(In-sim shot, not a render)

A new team called IXEG - International X-Plane Engineering Group has been formed to make this

wonderful classic aircraft.

The team is handpicked for the job, and, as the name indicates consists of mainly engineers which also

have very long experience with X-Plane. In addition we have an in-type captain as consultant.

I'm sure the Boeing 737 Classic needs no further introductions since most of you probably have

been in one. To be a bit more precise, it will be the B737-300.

737CL2.jpg

It will have it all, FMC, full plugin driven systems, and the most accurate flightmodel ever made for any heavy in X-Plane.

Visually it will be state of the art, so will also the 3D panel with manipulators and whatever v10 might contain of new features.

The answer to the question most of you probably are thinking of right now ...

ETA is Christmas 2011 smile.gif

¡¡FSX/P3D temblad!! :diablo:

Ok guys, here is a status report;

The 3D work is nearly complete but some tedious work remains, like the flap mechanisms, transmission boxes, torque tubes, elements of the landing gear and wheel wells also. We would guess the 3D is 95% complete. The cockpit texturing is slow going at the moment though so we are reluctant to do any movie updates until that work is further along and is the major reason for the lack of video updates as we focus on other parts that also need attention.
We are filling in small system functionality that required some custom sounds and we are integrating our new 3D spatial sound engine which took some time to write and now sounds come from where they are supposed to. For example, if you turn on the hydraulic pumps, you cannot hear them from the cockpit, but if you walk down the cabin, you'll hear them as you pass over the wingbox area, same for the flap actuations. Gyro sounds come from the gyros, Noise energy from air-drag emanates from the flaps as flaps are deployed, etc.
For the curious, the most recent work performed was to model up the IRS DC alarm system, which is quite a loud alarm. If, on the ground, an IRS unit reverts to DC system because the AC busses it normally uses is not powered for some reason, perhaps the pilot was texting and forgot to power the AC busses… then the IRS unit will begin to drain the battery at a rate worthy of attention. For this reason, a loud alarm sounds to let the pilot know so they can take appropriate action. Also, there is other time-delay functionality associated with the IRS units but you will have to dig into the FCOManual to get those particulars. Current work is adding new sounds, working on the remaining 3D and programming smaller and simple systems. As soon as a few more areas are addressed, we have two additional sneak-peek videos planned.

FAQ

cal.jpg

Hi all,

We daily get similar questions from many people about the project. So we will try to answer a few of the top FAQs.

Can you give us a release date? Sorry we can't. First of all we tried to do that a couple of times already but obviously the estimates were not very good. Seccond, we don't know exactly because all of us have normal jobs, family and kids - this is our hobby. And those of you in a similar situation know that a hobby usually doesn't have #1 priority if you wish to keep your wife and job. Third, none of us have ever made an aircraft of this magnitude and complexity before so it is hard to know exactly what challenges we might encounter on the remaining tasks. But rest assured, we are as keen as you guy's to release this bird as soon as possible. The plan is to release a basic v1.0 without alot of "extras" to save time and also ease the betaprocess.

Can I become a beta tester? Since we are a small team with limited ressources we wish to do a small scale closed beta. Handling several 100's of feedback messages, many identical, many caused by pilot errors is not an option. So having in mind the complexity of the aircraft - to save time - we wish to have a small group of qualified testers that knows their way around a 737 and its operation. We already have 1000s of hours testing it with the most qualified and motivated testpilot we could ever get, so we know the aircraft is very solid already, and we don't expect to find many "obvious" or big issues and the beta period shouldn't take very long.

Why on earth are the overhead panel switches reversed - you blind or something? No we are not blind. This is the Lufthansa configuration and we did this on purpose as a tribute to our technical advisor Jan - former LH 737 pilot - who is a HUGE asset to the team. When we started the project Lufthansa was still the biggest operator of 737-300s in Europe, so it seemed like a good choice, initially. Now with them phasing out the 737s and the majority of user demand for the standard layout, we have decided to make that the default for 1.0. The release version will have the "standard" configuration. Some have requested the LH version to be available as well, but for technical reasons, this will not be an option, atleast not for v1.0

Will it be possible to use with home-cockpits? Yes, but probably not for v 1.0

What will it cost? No price has yet been set.

Where will it be sold? All options are still open.

What hardware do I need? With most of the rendering settings tuned far down, it is currently flyable with a 512Mb card. Two of us developers do (iMacs). But to enjoy scenery, high FPS and HD textures you need better cards.

What 3rd party addons will it be compatible with? We choose keep all options open until after v 1.0 release. Then we are open for suggestions.

Will it work with XP 9 or FSX? No - not technically possible. It will work on XP 10.

Will the next project be a NG? No decisions on a new project has been made. But obviously a NG would be a good candidate since they have so much in common.

Will the FMS be fully functional? Yes, it will basically work like the one on the real aircraft

Will there be other variants like a -400, cargo-version etc? That is likely, but not for v 1.0.

This page might get updated once in a while as we get more questions or have more to tell you.

Sorry about the spam guy's, I try to delete it every other day but you know how it is in the summertime. There also is spam protection.

Project Update: Main focus now on finishing the FMS and the work continues.
