Ya, es verdad, después del accidente de American Airlines (el que perdió el motor) la prensa dilapidó a la aeronave antes de saberse realmente el motivo del fallo: fallo humano de mantenimiento indebido, AA montaba y desmontaba los motores de forma no recomendada por el fabricante. Incluso el incidente que provocó el accidente, no fue debidamente gestionado por los pilotos. El DC10 era tecnológicamente más avanzado que el 747 (sin desmerecer al Jumbo, que obviamente también es un gran avión) y de no ser dilapidado, sus ventas hubieran sido muchísimo más. Quizás lo que salve al 787 es precisamente eso, que veo que la prensa no le da tanto bombo... de momento, pues un incidente de un nuevo avión es más "sensacionalista" cuando ya ha entrado en servicio (con pasajeros), que ántes de ello. The ELT is located in the area that was scorched by the fire. The ELT has a non-rechargeable lithium manganese battery made by Honeywell. The ELTs are in widespread use on airliners. On Monday, the U.K.'s Air Accidents Investigations Branch confirmed it had invited Honeywell to take part in the investigation, noting it's far too early in the investigation to determine the cause. Honeywell echoed that sentiment in a statement and noted its ELTs have a flawless record. "Our ELT products have been certified by the FAA since 2005, are used on a number of aircraft models, and we've not seen nor experienced a single reported issue on this product line," the company said. The British investigators have ruled out any involvement of the large lithium ion rechargeable batteries. En algunos momentos ha sido interesante ver las vueltas de algunos aparatos cuando han tenido problemas o se pueden seguir los de familiares y amigos y quedarse con ellos sobre cosas del vuelo y en el conflicto en Siria como aviones de la aerolínea estatal daban toda la vuelta a Turquía por el Egeo para evitar sobrevolarla. Exposing the battery to ultrasonic sound may cause short-circuiting because the inside material is broken into pieces, leading to distortion, leakage, overheating, explosion, or fire.
