It does not overwrite or replace the AN/ALQ-131 ECM pod in any way, it is an addition to the selectable load. In reality the -184 is an improved ECM pod compared to the -131. However, since this improvement comes mainly from technical differences regarding what happens 'under the hood', and since the fact that the current modeling of (electronic) countermeasures in the DCS series is simplified anyway, I figured it would not conflict with realism to carry this pod, nor would it make any practical difference in-game. Unless the functioning of the -184 is modeled differently compared to the functioning of the -131, but so far I haven't been able to establish this. From the publicly available information I could dig up, both the -131 and -184 could be equipped by a suite 3 A-10C if it were still in operational use.NOTE: I've seen people suggesting to rename the alq-184.edm model file to the alq-131.edm model file and erase the original -131 to achieve the same. This trick however, is not quite the same as it does not enable the -184 but simply makes the -131 look like a -184 instead. It does not show up in your loading screen and DSMS as an AN/ALQ-184. Moreover, should the functioning of the -184 be modeled different than the functioning of the -131, this trick would make your quasi -184 still act like a -131. Should ED alter the content of the included files in future updates, I would have to see if it is possible to adapt to their changes to make it work again.
